Safety & Compliance

Built for everyday adventures and independently tested for food safety.

Food Contact Safety
The stainless steel used in the lunchbox has been independently tested by Bureau Veritas for heavy metal migration in accordance with:

  • Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004
  • Council of Europe Resolution CM/Res(2013)9 for metals and alloys intended for food contact

The lunchbox passed all migration requirements, confirming that the release of regulated metals remains well below permitted limits during food-contact testing.

304 Stainless Steel Construction
The lunchbox body is manufactured from food-grade 304 stainless steel, a material widely used in professional kitchens and food preparation equipment due to its:

  • Corrosion resistance
  • Durability
  • Non-reactive surface
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Long service life

The material has been tested for compliance with European food-contact requirements.

Heavy Metal Migration Testing
Independent laboratory analysis assessed the migration of a wide range of regulated metals, including:

  • Lead
  • Cadmium
  • Nickel
  • Chromium
  • Arsenic
  • Mercury

All results were significantly below applicable European specific release limits, with the lunchbox achieving a PASS result across all tested parameters.

REACH SVHC Screening
The lunchbox has also undergone screening for Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) under the European REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006.

Testing covered over 220 substances identified by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). Results confirmed that SVHC concentrations were below the 0.1% threshold applicable to articles under REACH requirements.

Taste & Odour Neutral
The 304 stainless steel material used in Earthlings food-contact products has been independently tested for sensory performance, demonstrating:

  • No detectable odour transfer
  • No detectable taste transfer

This helps ensure food tastes exactly as intended without metallic flavours or unwanted odours.

Tested by Independent Laboratories
Testing was conducted by internationally recognised laboratories including:

FAQ's

Is this lunchbox leakproof?

Yes, it features a food grade BPA free silicone seal pushed into the lid. This creates a leakproof seal.

It is ideal for sandwiches, pasta salads, fruit, dips and other typical packed lunches. For best performance, we recommend keeping the lunchbox upright when carrying liquids.

What is 304 Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel comes in different grades, each designed for different uses. Some grades are better suited to industrial or construction use, while others are specifically chosen for food contact and everyday durability.

304 stainless steel is one of the highest quality and most widely trusted food-grade stainless steels. It offers an excellent balance of strength, rust resistance, safety, and longevity, making it ideal for lunchware and food containers. It’s highly resistant to corrosion, won’t absorb flavours or odours, and is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

Unlike lower-grade metals, 304 stainless steel is designed to withstand years of daily use without degrading — making it a durable, reusable alternative to plastic.

Is it BPA free?

Yes. The lunchbox is BPA free, lead free and made using food-contact safe materials.

What age is it suitable for?

The lunchbox can be used from the toddler years right through to secondary school and beyond. Its simple, timeless design grows with your child rather than being outgrown after a few years.

What can I use the removable dividers for?

The two removable dividers allow you to customise the layout to suit each meal. Use no dividers for wraps or larger lunches, one divider to separate foods, or both dividers to create multiple sections for snacks, fruit and vegetables.

What size lunch is it suitable for?

The Single Compartment Lunchbox is ideal for everyday school lunches, including sandwiches, wraps, pasta salads, rice dishes, fruit, vegetables and snacks. The flexible divider system allows you to adapt the space depending on what you’re packing that day.

How does this fit into the Earthlings Adventure System?

The Single Compartment Lunchbox is designed to work alongside Earthlings snack pots, dip pots, sporks and lunch bags, allowing families to build a flexible lunch system that adapts as children grow.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Absolutely. All our lunchboxes and food containers are dishwasher-safe to make cleaning easy.

Will the stainless steel rust?

304 stainless steel is highly resistant to rust and corrosion. With normal use and care, your lunchbox should provide many years of reliable service.

Why choose stainless steel over plastic?

Stainless steel won’t crack, stain, warp or retain food odours like many plastic containers can. It's extremely durable, recyclable at end of life, and designed for years of daily reuse, helping families buy less and replace less over time.

Is it suitable for hot food?

Yes. The lunchbox can safely hold hot food, although it is not insulated and will not keep food hot for extended periods.

Is it suitable for children?

Absolutely. The lunchbox is designed specifically for school lunches, nursery snacks and family adventures. The removable dividers also help children organise and pack their own lunches independently.

Will food taste metallic?

No. High-quality 304 stainless steel is non-reactive and won’t affect the taste of your food. It also won’t absorb flavours or odours from previous meals.

Can I put this lunchbox in the microwave?

No! Unfortunately like most metal kitchenware, it should not be used in the microwave.
