How Earthlings products are made
Earthlings exists to design family products that do good — for the people who use them and for the world they belong to.
To make sure every product lives up to that responsibility, we follow a set of clear rules called the Earthlings Product Charter.
The charter guides how every product is designed, manufactured, transported and packaged. It ensures our products are safe for children, made responsibly and designed to last for years — not seasons.
This page summarises the principles behind the charter.
Built to last
Earthlings products are designed for real family life.
They are made to withstand everyday use — school mornings, park picnics, muddy walks and family travel.
Our approach prioritises:
• Durable materials
• Long product lifespans
• Repairable construction
• No trend-led aesthetics — designed to stay relevant as children grow
We believe the most sustainable product is one that does not need replacing.
Circular by design
Every Earthlings product is designed using circular design principles.
This means thinking about the entire life of a product — from the materials used to what happens when it is no longer needed.
Where possible we design products to be:
• Made from pure or mono-material construction
• Easy to repair or maintain
• Designed for disassembly
• Recyclable within existing UK systems
Our goal is simple: keep materials in use for as long as possible and avoid unnecessary waste.
Safe and non-toxic materials
Children interact closely with the products they use every day.
For that reason, Earthlings products must always be made from safe, non-toxic materials.
We avoid materials and treatments known to cause environmental or health concerns, including:
• PVC
• Harmful chemical coatings
• Powder coatings and solvent-based finishes
Instead we prioritise materials such as stainless steel, responsibly sourced natural fibres and recyclable polymers that meet recognised safety standards.
Responsible manufacturing
Every manufacturing partner must meet recognised quality, environmental and social standards.
Depending on the region, this includes certifications such as:
• ISO 9001 (quality management)
• ISO 14001 (environmental management)
• REACH chemical safety compliance
• Social compliance safety standards
Lower-impact transport
Transport can be one of the most carbon-intensive stages of a product’s life.
For that reason Earthlings follows a strict rule:
We never ship finished products by air.
Instead we prioritise:
• sea freight
• rail transport
• road transport where appropriate
This approach reduces transport emissions and is consistent with our Product Charter commitments.
Thoughtful packaging
Packaging should protect the product without creating unnecessary waste.
Earthlings packaging is designed to be:
• recyclable or compostable within UK systems
• free from single-use plastic
• minimal in material use
• made from responsibly sourced materials where possible
Wherever possible we design packaging using mono-material paper or cardboard so it can be easily recycled.
Transparency and accountability
The Product Charter is not marketing language — it is a working framework that guides every decision we make.
It is used internally when designing products and selecting manufacturing partners, and it will evolve as new materials, technologies and standards emerge.
Our aim is simple:
To ensure every Earthlings product is made with care, integrity and long-term responsibility.
Because the things children use every day should help shape a better future.
